Umm .. I don't use email much any more.

I was gently chiding a young teacher at a function lately because she still hadn't checked an email I'd sent her with a link I wanted her to have about a support site. She apologised but said: "Umm . . I don't use email much any more." She, as a young woman in her twenties, keeps in contact via MySpace, and text.

As I adjusted my mental models once again, (and gave myself a nudge for being caught out for having the trademark linear view of my generational mob: the baby boomers), I…

Democratising Information

Here in Australia, our national broadcaster ran a story tonight about the CNNYoutube event with US Presidential hopefuls.

Luckily, the story went beyond the whizz-bangery of the event, (as we've come to expect that from the home of Hollywood and other dreams), but more in the key messages which the story took from the event; as a metaphor for a transformed context of image management. I didn't catch the name of one of the interviewees, but ran to find a slip of paper to write down…

Hi Roger, good to meet you. Have been checking out your blog and I see we are interested in some of the same things. We also have a friend in common in Judy (although I have not yet met her f2f). I do love Ning.

Hello Roger
I do understand it takes time, but I work in a K-12 district where all teachers and admin have had laptops for 8 years and I still do not really have an administrator who models best practices. I am not sure how to move administrators into using the technology that is always available, I still have them using overheads for their faculty meetings...Teachers feel the laptops are "theirs" and do not use them in their teaching practices, more for email. I have some teachers who do use any and all technology they can get their hands on, but when they are observed the principals have no idea what they are doing or what the benefit is.
I am thinking of approaching one principal this summer to see if he would be interested in starting a wiki for DI discussions in his building, a way for teachers to post successes and challenges with different approaches they try. Not sure how else to make a dent in the current practice, any advise would be appreciated. thank you. Robin

Hello Roger nice to meet you. I work in a K-12 district as an instructional technology specialist. I would with teachers and students in Pennsylvania. I wish our principals would model the use of technology more, maybe I can learn from you how to manage to engage principals into using and modeling technology for their teachers. Robin
