Teacher 2.0 - Advantages of BYOD in schools.

There are many advantages of BYOD in schools.

Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) - IE: Bring Your Own Technology (BYOT), Bring Your Own Phone (BYOP) or even Bring Your Own PC (BYOPC).

But the greatest advantage beyond the obvious reduced equipment cost and consumerisation of learning material by student off compass, is you can implement BYOD as little or as much as you like.

Below is an example of minimum risk, great reward via PDF empowerment. The PDF approach  is especially great for study at home schools (SAHS) too. While it is true the bring your own device to school pros and cons are numerous, what is often overlooked by those researching and considering the technology approach, is Adult Learning. The fact that the older the student, the less the risk. (with in reason. :)

BYOD minimalist example:

The instructor easily and quickly can share extra study material in PDF format at the end of the day with students. (they can swipe to their phones, tablets, etc.) It encourages student to study at home, on their own time, its Lean and Green too, saving money and trees. Even with younger students, when life forces them to wait, they go to their smart phone. They could opt to read that free extra learning material.

The instructor could even use the internet to get free extra learning material to support their lesson. Like the maintenance and engineering PDF example above. With PDF, it is compatible with all devices, and if a student doesn't have a device that day, the instructor could print a hard copy for them. PDFs are a lot more secure than word docs, spreadsheets, etc. Once PDF is on students device, the don't even need a wifi hot spot to access like they would with online only content. So no excuse for not doing their homework. Ha Ha.

If you are an instructor at a vocational school or technical college, I recommend you see and share the link above for informative article resource. (They provide real world application knowledge in simple terms and easy learning.)
